The Carolina Panthers: Pro Football in the Queen City

Published: 08/25/2011 by John Gibson in Sports

Why would you want a professional football team in your city? Well, for one, the games are fun to go to and the team itself has the ability to heighten the pride of the city’s residents. Another great perk is the fact that tourism will go up, the economy can profit from the influx of consumers, and the extra money can contribute to many great causes in the area. Though these perks are wonderful, most cities do not get to claim a professional football team—but the Queen City does!

Having a professional football team is a great honor for a city, as it not only brings in revenue but offers residents a fun activity that enhances their loyalty to their hometown. Charlotte, North Carolina is home to the Carolina Panthers, a professional football team that has grown hugely popular in the South. Of course, every good team needs a great stadium, and the Bank of America Stadium is the Queen City’s destination for professional football.

There are few activities more wholesome and fun—or more all-American—than spending a night at the local baseball stadium; whether you’re zealous about the sport itself or simply love the camaraderie, the community spirit, and the ballpark food, an old-fashioned baseball game is never a bad option for an evening’s entertainment! Residents of Charlotte, North Carolina, then, are grateful to have their very own minor league team—the Charlotte Knights—to root for and to spend evenings with.

Go to any big city and you’ll probably find a neighborhood or two much like Charlotte’s Quail Hollow. This isn’t necessarily the biggest or most populous neighborhood in town, and it’s probably not the most iconic, either. There’s nothing particularly flashy about it that’s going to make it a favorite haunt for tourists, and its landmarks are going to be largely unfamiliar to non-residents. And yet...

Located just 20 minutes from uptown, Concord is the second largest city in the Charlotte, NC Metropolitan area, and the twelfth largest city in the state of North Carolina, in terms of population. This comes as no surprise, considering all of the great attractions located in Concord.

The State of North Carolina has a rich history, as far as the sport of basketball is concerned. The long and illustrious histories of UNC and Duke basketball (and their fabled rivalry) aside, the Queen City has its own NBA team, one with a long and illustrious history all its own. That this history would happen to coincide with the personal history of the sport’s greatest player, Michael Jordan, is simply icing on the cake!
