Start Your New Year's Resolution Today
Published: 10/17/2011
It’s the American way to pledge a New Year’s Resolution before the new year begins, but how many of us actually follow through? When we decide on a specific resolution, is there real thought put into it, or is it a quick thought that crosses our minds and suddenly it becomes the newest, greatest thing to commit to for the year (or for a month or so anyway)?
I’m speaking from a Personal Trainer’s/ Wellness Coach point of view, so in terms of these so-called resolutions; specifically I’m referring to all things fitness and health related: weight-loss, more specifically.
It seems that the consistent trend is to lose those last few pounds and/or tone up. My thought process is to be consistent with the actual act of being healthy and fit all year. Why do we have to wait til the end of the year to make these drastic resolutions that few people seem to be able to stick to? I realize for some, it may be a motivational thing and that’s ok but if you don’t have motivation NOW, you definitely won’t have it come Jan 1st. The best time to act on a decision is NOW. Not tomorrow or next month. You’ll not only have seemingly better and lasting results, you’ll find ways to keep going and stay on track without the pressure of that “New Year’s Resolution” you carelessly vocalized to everyone you know.
My challenge to you is to decide TODAY that you will begin a new journey of health, wellness and fitness. If you have an excuse today, you’ll always have an excuse. So rid your mind of those and just do it. No ifs, ands or buts, just make the ultimate executive decision and give yourself permission to be healthy.
Today is October 17th, imagine where you will be by January 1st. There will be no need to procrastinate another year away because you will have already begun. Your new, New Year’s Resolution should be to enjoy life, be happy and continue to stay healthy.
Here are a some suggestions to help you along the way and to keep you motivated:
